Frequently Asked Questions

At this time, I am an out-of-network provider (OON), which means that I am cash pay only, and I do not accept any insurance. To make things easy, I use Thrizer and with your permission can review to see if you have out of network benefits (OON) or you can contact your insurance provider directly for detailed information about your benefits.

Yes, please feel free to book a free phone call with me to see if I suit your needs. A good therapeutic bond is not just a pleasant extra in therapy; it's a critical component that underlies every aspect of the work done together. Let's get started, send me an e-mail megan@therapywithfranklin.com or call/text me at 949-782-7374

Yes, I am licensed to provide therapy in the state of California. If you reside in CA, we can work together!

I offer a limited number of walk-and-talk sessions after work in South Orange County, CA (Limited to: Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo).

Yes, if you would like I can discuss and collaborate with your medical provider such as your PCP, RD, and Psychiatrist. It's best practice and required by ethical and legal guidelines to obtain a signed release of information (ROI) from you before communicating with your medical provider. Both providers typically need a signed ROI from you to exchange information.

No. As a LCSW, my expertise is in providing therapy and helping clients work through their emotional and psychological challenges through non-medical methods. When medication might be needed as part of a patient's treatment plan, I work in collaboration with their psychiatrist or PCP, who can properly evaluate and manage medication related issues.

At the beginning I meet with clients on a weekly basis. This is helpful for consistency purposes. Once you start feeling better, session frequency can be reduced to a bi-weekly basis. Session 1 is 60 minutes long and then they are 50 minutes long. Session frequency is based on your needs.

Completely valid experience--and you're not alone in feeling that way. The beginning of therapy can feel like a "one sided interview", especially during intake, which can feel structured, fast and impersonal. That's often because therapists are gathering essential background information, understanding presenting concerns, and ensuring the right fit before diving into deeper work or setting goals. My approach is relational, while I do answer key questions early on, I also focus on creating a space where we can have a real conversation.

No. Even if someone pays for your therapy sessions, the adult client (age 18+) holds full rights to confidentiality. I cannot share any information with your loved one unless you give explicit written consent (e.g., a signed ROI). The payment does not equal access.

No. I only work with individual adults that are 18+.

If the parent is the policyholder, the adult (18+) client retains full confidentiality rights. No information can be shared with the parent--including appointment details, diagnosis, or progress--without written authorization (ROI). Insurance companies DO send Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) which may reveal information like dates of service, your therapist name, service codes (CPT codes), and general diagnosis code (Anxiety, Major Depressive Disorder, etc.). This means that your parent might see basic info even without your direct disclosure.
